Top 10 Secrets Hidden Inside the iPhone 5

Top 10 Secrets Hidden Inside the iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 may be getting a little older and it may have been side-lined but it still remains one of the most popular of all the iPhone models today.  But, did you know it has some secrets hidden away inside?
Here are the top 10 hidden features of the iPhone:

Shoot Stills While Recording Video
A neat feature, you don’t even need to stop recording while you shoot a photograph. It won’t be a full resolution image but it means never missing that moment again. All you do is tap on the Camera icon in the top right of the screen while you are videoing.

Improve Reception
While LTE can provide high speed downloads it doesn’t work everywhere.  If you find you have little to no signal, switch of LTE and your iPhone 5 will pick up a full strength signal on 3G.

Allow Specific Callers past Do Not Disturb
While Do Not Disturb is a great way of ensuring peace and quiet, sometimes you may need to let certain callers through.  All you do is add certain contacts to a whitelist and these can get past Do Not Disturb – this only works for calls, not text messages.

Have a Visual Notification Alert
The iPhone doesn’t have the LED alert that is found on Android phones but you can use your Camera Flash as a visual alert. Open Settings, General, Accessibility and enable LED Flash for Alerts.

See Battery as Percentage
If you prefer to see exactly how much battery life you have left you can display a percentage icon on your iPhone.  Open Settings, General, Usage and enable Toggle Battery Percentage On.

Use Siri to Turn on Apps
Siri is a wonderful addition to the iPhone and you can make use of this feature to open your apps. Open Siri in the normal way and then ask for a specific app to be opened.

Keep an Eye on Your Data Usage
Most people have limited data plans and it can be difficult to know when you are about to go over yours and start incurring charges. Again, in Settings open General, Usage and tap on Cellular Usage and you can see your data usage figures. You will need to reset this at the beginning of every billing period.

Use On Screen Home Button
If your iPhone 5 Home button has taken a battering you can use a feature called Assistive Touch to give you on-screen controls. Open Settings, General, Accessibility and tap on Assistive Touch to enable it.

Enable Find My iPhone
If you haven’t already switched in this iPhone tracking feature you should do so now.  It will enable your iPhone to be tracked using GPS if it is ever lost or stolen.  Open Settings, iCloud, Find My iPhone and enable it.

Switch on Camera Grid
If you are a bit of a camera buff and you love using your iPhone 5 camera, did you know there is a grid you can enable to help you compose better images?  Open your Camera app, tap on Options and tap Grid to turn it.  The lines will only be visible on screen not on the images themselves.
Of course, there are many more features hidden in the iPhone 5 but it would take too long to list them all.

There are other ways to get more out of your iPhone 5. One is to jailbreak it. The act of jail breaking gives you access to another app store when you can choose from thousands of apps that you can use to modify your iPhone.
These are all apps that Apple has refused to allow in the official App store; using a combination of these apps you will soon have your iPhone performing functions it should have been able to do along and looking like it’s never looked before.
One other important thing you should do with your iPhone is to unlock it. Unlocking frees the iPhone from its SIM lock, the code that your carrier places on the iPhone so you can only use their SIM cards.

Unlocking the iPhone 5 gives you the freedom to choose whichever carrier you want; it frees you from expensive roaming fees and it gives you the option to change your carrier to get the best phone deals as often as you want.
Both jailbreak and unlock software should be purchased from a verified professional source in order for the procedures to be successful.
