BlackBerry is tweeting from an iPhone

BlackBerry is tweeting from an iPhone

Oh, BlackBerry. We can understand when your celebrity creative director accidentally tweets from a competitor's smartphone — or is the victim of a "hack." But your own, central Twitter account? That's no good. And yet somehow it's exactly what's just happened.

Moments ago, BlackBerry tweeted out a (since deleted) message urging its last bastion of loyal users to keep up with the conversation on Twitter. You'd think the BlackBerry Classic would be a perfect device for thumbing out 140-character missives and sending them to the world; that keyboard is undeniably fantastic.

But nope. Whoever wrote this fired it off from an iPhone. You wouldn't see it anywhere in the regular Twitter app, but companies still seem to forget this stuff is plainly visible in Tweetbot, Tweetdeck, and other third-party clients. Let's learn the lesson already, everyone. Why was this message so urgent that it needed to be tweeted from a phone? An iPhone, at that? We'll never know.
And in case you were wondering, yes, a Twitter app for BlackBerry most definitely does exist

This year, your car will start yelling at you for driving poorly

This year, your car will start yelling at you for driving poorly

Fitness trackers have turned into a multibillion-dollar business, but what about a fitness tracker for your car? General Motors' OnStar division is announcing today that it's launching a "driver assessment" program in cars that will track how well drivers drive — hard braking, hard acceleration, and so on — and offer detailed feedback after collecting 90 days' worth of data.
Afterward, they'll have the option of forwarding the data on to Progressive as part of its Snapshot insurance discount program, where you can get discounted insurance rates for driving well. (Progressive already offers a hardware dongle that can plug into existing cars to accomplish the same function.)

Privacy is a big concern here: although GM says that control of the system is "is in the hands of the customer," it only notes that drivers control whether they receive an assessment.
The company is using anonymized driving data to compare participating drivers to national averages — do you drive better or worse than the average driver? — but it's been well documented that anonymized location data can often be de-anonymized. Authorities and consumer advocate groups have already taken a keen interest in connected car platforms as a potential privacy problem, and a feature like this certainly won't allay many fears.

GM says the feature will be available on all 2016 models sold in the US, "most" 2015 models, and a selection of 2013 and 2014 models starting this summer.

U.S. Central Command Twitter Account Suspended After Apparent ISIS Hack

U.S. Central Command Twitter Account Suspended After Apparent ISIS Hack

The Twitter account for the top U.S. military headquarters responsible for wars in the Middle East was hacked by a group identifying itself as the “Cyber Caliphate” of the Islamic State group Monday.
U.S. Central Command’s Twitter feed and YouTube page were suspended shortly after 1 p.m. ET, but not before it put out a string of tweets that included what appear to be plans for attacking North Korea and China, personal contact information for U.S. service members, and threatening messages aimed at those currently waging war in Iraq and Syria.

The hackers also replaced the profile images on both accounts with a black-and-white figure masked in an Islamic extremist headdress next to the iconic flag of the group.
“AMERICAN SOLDIERS, WE ARE COMING, WATCH YOUR BACK!,” one of the first tweets read, using one of the common alternative names for the group, along with ISIL and the Arabic acronym, “Daish.”

“ISIS is already here, we are in your PCs, in each military base,” read another, including a picture of two women in military fatigues working at what looks like a command center at a forward operating base.
Another tweet included an extended message, saying “the CyberCaliphate under the auspices of ISIS continues its CyberJihad.” The hack is in retribution for U.S.-led military action in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, it stated.
“We won’t stop! we know everything about you, your wives and children. U.S. soldiers! we’re watching you!”

A U.S. defense official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed to NBC News that the account had clearly been hacked.
U.S. Central Command issued a statement about four hours after their Twitter and YouTube pages were suspended. The sites were only compromised for 30 minutes, the command said, and did not involve any classified information leaks.

"These sites reside on commercial, non-Defense Department servers and both sites have been temporarily taken offline while we look into the incident further," the headquarters said. "CENTCOM's operational military networks were not compromised and there was no operational impact to U.S. Central Command."

Among the other tweets included phone numbers and email addresses for top staff at the 10 main U.S. Army component commands, including U.S. Army Europe and U.S. Army Central Command.
The last tweets included what appear to be PowerPoint slides for nuclear facilities in North Korea and a plan for surveillance and reconnaissance in and around China.

It's unclear whether any of the tweets include actual hacked information from U.S. military computers. Some of the images and spreadsheets appear to be public source information available through a Google search. The PowerPoint slides, for example, also include the logo for the Lincoln Laboratory at MIT.

U.S. Central Command is based in Tampa Bay, Florida near the headquarters for U.S. Special Operations Command.

Windows 10's new browser reportedly lets you search with your voice

Windows 10's new browser reportedly lets you search with your voice

Windows 10's oft-reported Spartan web browser may not just be a leaner, fresher substitute for Internet Explorer -- it could have a few tricks up its sleeve, too. Sources for The Vergeclaim that Microsoft's voice-guided Cortana assistant will be present both in the OSand in Spartan -- much like Chrome's "OK Google" feature, you can reportedly open a new browser tab and ask Cortana to look something up, whether it's a website or your flight itinerary. There's also talk of pen-based annotations for websites that you can share with others through the cloud.
The apparent scoop also supports details mentioned in earlier reports, including the existence of separate desktop and mobile versions, a lightweight, Chrome-like interface and the inclusion of Internet Explorer in Windows for the sake of compatibility. Whether or not you'll see Microsoft show any of this at its January 21st Windows 10 event is another matter. Neowinclaims to have seen an early build of Spartan, and it didn't see Cortana -- while the assistant may show up, neither it nor Spartan itself is necessarily ready for the spotlight. The Verge

Katy Perry Releasing Taylor Swift Diss Song: Performing It At Super Bowl?

Katy Perry Releasing Taylor Swift Diss Song: Performing It At Super Bowl?

Perry, 30, and Swift, 25, were said to have fallen out after Perry ‘stole’ some of Swift’s back-up dancers.
Then Swift spoke about her new song Bad Blood from her album 1989 and how it was written about another female singer.
“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” she told Rolling Stone. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’”
“She did something so horrible,” Swift says. “I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
Now Katy Perry is performing at the Super Bowl in February, and it sounds like Taylor Swift had better watch out! Initially it was reported that Katy was planning to diss Taylor during her performance in a subtle way to get back at her for her song "Bad Blood," which is rumored to be about Katy - but now it sounds like Katy is going to make dissing Taylor the entirety of her performance!
Katy reportedly wrote a song about Taylor, and it's not said to be a friendly track. Apparently the song is titled "She's So Creepy." Uh oh!
Don't understand why Katy is so upset about "Bad Blood"?

Audi's smartwatch collaboration with LG isn't running Android Wear

Audi's smartwatch collaboration with LG isn't running Android Wear

Audi briefly, ever so briefly, brandished a not-before-seen smartwatch at its CES event, showcasing some wearable-car connectivity that it's working on. And while that's pretty cool in itself, the watch used to show it off looked pretty darn classy, with stainless steel construction, a substantial crown and another pair of buttons flanking it. While a collaboration between LG and the carmaker, it's not like any smartwatch you've seen from LG so far: this one runs webOS. Now, even though it's not running Android, Android Central managed to track down the watch and tour through the currently lightweight interface. We've confirmed from our own sources that yes, the watch is indeed running webOS, although more details are scarce. Is too early to direct you to wait for MWC in Barcelona, come February? Perhaps, but we're going to do that anyhow. What do those extra buttons do?

Shailene Woodley Is Unrecognizable on Her Latest Magazine Cover

Shailene Woodley Is Unrecognizable on Her Latest Magazine Cover

We're never surprised when Shailene Woodley completely transforms herself for a role – after all, she chopped off all of her hair for her part in The Fault in Our Stars, and she channeled her inner fierce heroine for Divergent. But she still managed to wow us with her latest magazine photo shoot, because she morphed into a mime for her cover of W magazine.

With bold brows, slicked-back and parted hair and extremely pale makeup, Shai looks like a Parisian street performer in her artistic new photo. We actually can't even believe she's the same person!

Katy Perry Planning Revenge on Taylor Swift During the Super Bowl

Katy Perry Planning Revenge on Taylor Swift During the Super Bowl

Taylor Swift's dramatic Katy Perry diss has been well-documented, but it sounds like the "Roar" singer is ready to get her revenge! According to rumors, she wants to make a jab at her nemesis during her upcoming Super Bowl performance, either with a visual or a lyrical insult.
"Katy wants to show she is the biggest female act," the insider said.
"She wants to make a statement with her performance and show that she is the biggest female act in the world, and she wants to show that to everyone, including Taylor."
While she might make a subtle nod in T. Swift's direction, she probably won't openly bash the singer — especially since she reportedly finds the whole situation "amusing" rather than threatening.
Of course, Katy's boyfriend did attack Taylor on Twitter, so maybe she still holds a grudge? Since she's a good performer, she shouldn't have to cut anyone else down to make herself look better.
